Licensing
Animal Health Pharmaceuticals is focused on the development, manufacture and commercialisation of pharmaceuticals aimed at improving the quality of life and maintaining the health of companion animals; to be achieved through a combination of in-licensing, outsourcing and out-licensing. Potential products are in-licensed from third parties, such as academic institutions, and subjected to a development programme using external resources. Existing human drugs are used as the basis for the development of new animal drugs resulting in a significantly reduced time from development to market as well as significantly lower costs by comparison to human drug development. The Group’s existing pharmaceutical products are based upon human pharmaceutical products that have obtained regulatory approval for sale in either the US, the EU or both. This pre-approval enables an accelerated and simplified regulatory approval process for animal use.
Companion animal conditions or needs are identified and potential products are sourced from Accura Animal Health’s university and biotech company partner network. As products are sourced, they undergo a rigorous evaluation for existing IP ownership, additional IP potential and proof of concept in the target species. If a product passes this evaluation then licence negotiations and completion of pre-clinical work to prepare for the clinical commercialisation process begins.
